Blockchains for Social Good Prize
The European Innovation Council awarded PROSUME its Blockchains for Social Good Prize, chosen from almost 200 applications from 43 countries.
The EIC Prize gave €5 million to 6 winners. The call looked for blockchain solutions to social challenges that could scale and be deployed.
Energy wasn't one of the official categories. PROSUME won anyway, ex aequo with another company, for an open-source, interoperable blockchain solution for sustainable and decentralised energy production and consumption.
Why it won
Decentralised production can still leave the power with large players: most blockchain projects in energy stop at local tokens run by incumbents.
PROSUME lets prosumers take part in production and balancing on equal terms. That puts more renewables in circulation, weakens monopolies, and rewards citizens who produce and consume responsibly.
